Our souls need this work
One of the most formative moments of my life was in 2015, when I heard Tim Keller - arguably the greatest pastor of the 21st century - confess his view that our churches (his included) inspire Christians but do not form them.
With the sad result that Christians are not much different than non-Christians.
He also added this:
“..I do think that there is a danger today that people think great preaching is the key now… I'm not saying that we should have any less emphasis on preaching or any lower standards for preaching but we ought to be having a lot higher standards for everything else we're doing.”
It’s that, “everything else we're doing”, that I’m including spiritual conversations in.
Everyday you are having conversations with folks. From the one-word reply from your teen to the verbose reply from your coworker, we are having them.
So, let’s raise the standards on our conversations out of a love for Jesus that outflows into a love for others.
